Is this Toxic Ingredient Hiding in Your Beauty Product ?

Introduction

Dr. Janine asks – is this toxic ingredient hiding in your beauty products? She talks about how “fragrance” is defined as a combination of compounds that give the product its scent. She explains that the concern is that “fragrance” can be made up of any number of 3000 different chemical compounds. Lastly, Dr. Janine suggests avoiding using products that contain fragrance, using essential oils instead, and doing regular full-body detox.

So the other day I went to the drugstore and I was looking for a body lotion that didn't have this toxic ingredient in there and do you think I could find one out of all of those hundreds of products that were on the Shelf? I couldn't! That ingredient is fragrance, fragrance is defined by the FDA as a combination of chemicals that gives each perfume/cologne or body lotion and beauty products their scent.

The frightening thing about the term "fragrance" is that it encompasses a wide range of more than 3 000 different chemical compounds, making it a catch-all phrase that can refer to a number of these toxic ingredients. For this reason, you should be aware of the research underlying some of these toxic chemicals.

Due to the fact that everything we put on our skin eventually gets absorbed into our bloodstream and is no longer just a topical issue, you should be aware of the fact that it can seriously disrupt your hormones. These are endocrine disruptors, as you've probably heard about these before, and they can mess up your hormones. Some of these fragrance ingredients can also cause some serious problems because they are chemically derived, so this is something you definitely want to be aware of.

So my first piece of advice is to perform a full body detox a few times a year using herbal remedies that aid in clearing toxins from the blood, lymphatic system, and skin as well as from the internal organs. My second piece of advice is to always look for fragrance-free beauty products, though you can still use fragrance as long as it's natural and derived from sources like essential oils.
