Introduction
If you've ever been curious about liver detoxification, here are five foods that detox your liver.
1. Lemon
Starting with number one lemons! If you've ever heard about squeezing fresh lemon juice into some water, especially warm water, I love to do this first thing in the morning. It helps to stimulate digestion but also helps to stimulate that natural detoxification of your liver.
2. Turmeric
This root is something you may be familiar with, particularly its active component, curcumin. Numerous studies now show that curcumin helps detoxify the liver and is also very supportive of gallbladder health. It's a great addition to your daily routine, and you may even want to take it as a supplement. The one I prefer actually doesn't contain black pepper, which is commonly paired with turmeric to enhance the bioavailability of curcumin. However, some people are sensitive to black pepper, so you can look for a supplement that includes quercetin with turmeric and curcumin, which supports great absorption and efficacy for liver health.
3. Kale & Bitter Greens
Number three on my list is kale, especially along with other bitter greens. The liver actually thrives on anything bitter, as it benefits from the phytonutrients found in these greens. These compounds are highly supportive of liver health, making kale and other bitter greens fantastic choices for your diet.
4. Walnuts
We know that walnuts contain healthy fats and are loaded with minerals as well great for your liver health.
5. Green Tea
Another great food for liver detox is green tea. Its active component, EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), is a powerful antioxidant that is fantastic for liver health. Drinking green tea once or twice a day is beneficial, as long as it’s of good quality and low in fluoride, which is important for supporting your liver.
