What I Eat in a Day as a ND

Introduction

As a naturopathic doctor, here is what I eat in a day. I always start my day with a big glass of water that I keep by my bed to help my whole body and brain stay hydrated.

Breakfast

First thing in the morning, I usually have eggs or an omelette for breakfast. I’ll have either a black or green tea, and if I have black tea, I put a little grass-fed cream in it. I don't usually eat carbs with breakfast, but if I do, I’ll have lots of grass-fed butter with it because you just can't get enough butter. I might also have nuts and seeds or protein bars that I make myself with my protein powder, fibre-rich hemp seeds and more!

Mid-Morning

Later in the morning I'll have coffee with collagen added to it. In between breakfast and coffee I'll drink water with my vitamins.

Lunch

For lunch, I normally have a salad with protein, like fish or chicken, which is usually organic and comes from the best source I can find at the time. I also eat vegetables that are in season where I am depending on what is grown locally.

Dinner

For dinner I’ll have some veggies and while I don’t usually eat potatoes, pasta, and other carbs, I do sometimes. I always follow the 80/20 rule, so 80 percent of the time I'm eating well and 20 percent of the time I'm either away from home and can't control my meals as well or I'm on vacation and just eating what I can find. Most of the time I'm having some type of seafood, like shrimp. I like to eat a little bit of the shrimp shell because it has chitin, which is a great source of fiber that helps feed the good probiotics in your gut.

Dessert

For dessert I like having a little piece of dark chocolate. I love polyphenols and think they have a great anti-aging effect on my skin. Dark chocolate makes me happy, so I eat a small amount of every day and try to find healthy sources of it. 85 percent or more of that cocoa, and I make sure to buy from brands that don't have heavy metal toxins like lead and cadmium, which have been in the news lately.

Evening

In the evening, I'll have herbal tea, and before bed, I love making dandelion coffee, which tastes like coffee but is made from herbs. Sometimes I'll add grass-fed cream and sometimes I'll add a natural sweetener like Stevia or monk fruit. So that's what I eat in a day. I'd love to hear what you eat too, so let me know in the comments.
