6 Ear Infections Tips

Introduction

Here are my six tips for ear infections, which I’ve successfully used to help not only my patients but also my own children and myself. These tips actually work.

Tip #1: Limit Sugar in Diet

The first tip is to limit sugar in your diet. Unfortunately, sugar—especially refined sugars—feeds the less favorable organisms associated with ear infections. You don’t want to feed the bad guys when your immune system is trying to fight them off.

Tip #2: Limit Conventional Dairy

Another tip is to limit your intake of conventional dairy products, whether it’s milk or ice cream (which also contains sugar). Dairy is very mucus-forming, and it’s not ideal when you’re dealing with an active ear infection.

Tip #3: Ear Drops

Use natural ear drops. You can make these at home. Of course, make sure to get your eardrum checked to ensure it’s intact. One option is to use a few cloves of garlic in olive oil, letting it sit overnight, then straining it in the morning. A few drops of this mixture in the ear can be an amazing remedy for ear infections.

Tip #4: Onion on Ear

Place an onion on your ear! Cut an onion in half and place it directly on the ear for about 20 minutes. If this is for a young child who can't sit still, even 5 minutes will help. Onions have natural anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, such as quercetin, which can alleviate ear pain and help kill bacteria.

Tip #5: Ear Exercises

Number five is ear exercises. I share these in another video, where I demonstrate how to pull on different areas of the ear, as well as behind the ear, to help with drainage from the lymphatic system. This is great for both chronic and acute ear problems.

Tip #6: Immune Boosting Herbal Antibiotics

Use natural immune-boosting herbal antibiotics. Many herbal medicines have antibiotic effects without disturbing your gut microbiome. Some of my favorites include astragalus, American ginseng, oregano, black walnut, and cloves. I like to combine these herbs to stimulate immunity and provide a natural antibiotic effect, which is especially helpful when dealing with an ear infection.
