Introduction
Benefits of glycine
You need to be conscious of your body's glycine depletion, mainly if you consume a lot of GMO foods such as corn and wheat, especially because these are included in many of the processed foods that we eat in North America.
Lack of glycine
Glyphosate, a commonly used herbicide in modern farming is responsible for the glycine shortfall we are currently seeing because it is known to reduce glycine absorption. We require glycine to help build collagen, and if you are deficient you may notice that you are developing fine lines or wrinkles – especially if you don’t get enough sleep.
Glutathione
It's possible that glyphosate and the body's depleted glycine levels are to blame for the fact that glutathione – a master antioxidant in our bodies – is being negatively impacted by free radicals. My advice here is to look for complex supplements that contain glycine. A great example is the magnesium I take, which is a magnesium bisglycinate that helps to protect against cellular health and is also a great source of glycine.
