Tips for Scalp Psoriasis and Dandruff

Introduction

If you're dealing with a dry, itchy scalp, and perhaps flaking too, you might be wondering if it's dandruff, psoriasis, or something else. Don’t worry—you’re not alone! Fortunately, there are natural solutions that can help improve your scalp health. Here are eight tips that can help clear up psoriasis and dandruff while supporting overall scalp health.

Tip #1 Fix Leaky Gut

Believe it or not, the state of your gut is closely connected to your skin health, including the condition of your scalp. Psoriasis and dandruff can often be linked to an imbalance in your gut microbiome. Supporting your gut health can improve your skin’s microbiome too.

One of the best ways to improve gut health is through herbal treatments. I recommend a combination of herbs, which I refer to as "Cabo," to help balance out harmful organisms like yeast and Malassezia—a fungus that can contribute to scalp issues. Follow this up with probiotics and ensure your diet includes plenty of essential minerals to support your overall microbiome health.

Tip #2: Circadian Clocks

To ensure that your circadian rhythms are optimized, let’s first understand what that means. Your circadian rhythms, which follow the natural cycles of light and dark, as well as hot and cold, are crucial for the functioning of the clock mechanisms in your gut and skin. However, there is often a mismatch between the timing of your skin's clocks and the Master Clock in your brain.

To get your body back into a natural rhythm, it’s important to follow the light and dark cycle of the day. One quick tip is to ensure that after the sun has set, your environment is dark. In a natural setting without artificial lights, it would be dark at night. If light is needed, it should be natural full-spectrum light, such as that from candles or fire.

By making sure your environment mimics a natural setting, you’ll help optimize your circadian rhythms, which is important for both your skin and scalp health.

Tip #3 Full-Body Detox

Consider doing a full-body detox, including a heavy metal detox. Heavy metals, such as mercury and aluminum, along with other toxins in the body, can be closely related to an unhealthy microbiome. This imbalance can also affect the microbiome on your scalp and skin. Therefore, addressing this issue is important for helping with dandruff and psoriasis.

Tip #4 Sun, Cold

Tip number four and this one’s easy. It’s to get more natural sunlight directly on your scalp. If you’re wearing a hat, take it off to let your scalp soak up the sun. Additionally, some cold exposure can be really healing for your mitochondrial health, which can, in turn, help improve your skin health as well.

Tip #5 Coconut Oil

Try some warm coconut oil. This is a natural antifungal. It's very soothing to an irritated scalp, and can be great for that dandruff and psoriasis as well.

Tip #6 Scalp Mask

Mix a specific mask designed for your scalp. Now this can be helpful and I have shared the recipe in another one of my shorter videos so you can check that out. It involves some tea tree oil, some aloe gel, and either some apple cider vinegar or some witch hazel which is a great astringent and is really useful for an irritated scalp.

Tip #7 Red Light/UV Therapy

Get more natural light! Especially red light and UV light on your scalp. There are devices that do this, but also just getting natural sunlight exposure is really helpful for clearing up that scalp.

Tip #8 Black Seed Oil Capsules

Try some black seed oil. So actually ingesting the black seed oil capsules has proven to be effective, especially for psoriasis on the scalp, But for dandruff as well, it has an antifungal effect, it's antibacterial, and really can clear up that dry and flaky scalp.

I talked a bit about leaky gut syndrome and how it could be related to psoriasis and dandruff. Check out my video 'The 8 Leaky Gut Tips You NEED to Know' to learn more about leaky gut syndrome and for natural tips to help!
