Top 3 Worst Inflammation Causing Foods

Introduction

Here are the top three worst inflammation-causing foods that you might not have been aware of. We know that inflammation in the body leads to aches and pains, but it can also affect our hormones. I often talk about leptin resistance in my content, as it's crucial to avoid chronic inflammation, which can worsen leptin signaling and lead to a host of health problems.

1. Canola Oil

Food number one on my list of inflammatory foods is canola oil. This oil is highly inflammatory, as it's a type of polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), and most canola oil is genetically modified (GMO). Originally called rapeseed oil, it was later rebranded as canola oil because it was first produced in Canada. Canola oil is hidden in many processed foods, so it's important to read your labels carefully and avoid consuming it whenever possible.

2. Vegetable Oil

Very similar to canola oil is vegetable oil. Vegetable oil often comes from corn, which is typically genetically modified (GMO), especially in North America. It's also mass-produced and commonly found in many packaged foods. Due to its highly inflammatory properties, it's important to make a conscious effort to avoid vegetable oil whenever possible.

3. Processed Sugar

Of course, processed sugar is another major culprit. Sugar is highly inflammatory—it disrupts both leptin and insulin signaling, and contributes to widespread inflammation. It can be especially harmful to the gut, potentially leading to issues like leaky gut, which is often linked to autoimmune disorders such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Chronic inflammation from leaky gut can contribute to a range of health problems.

My tip here is simple: everything in moderation! If you want to enjoy these foods occasionally—whether you're out at a party or celebrating—it's not the end of the world. However, whenever you have control over your diet, try to avoid these inflammation-causing foods and focus on eating a whole foods diet.

Incorporating healthy Omega-3s and Omega-6s from better sources of these oils is definitely the smarter choice for your overall health.
