6 Tips for Andropause

Introduction

Alright, guys, if you're struggling with your hormones during andropause (the male version of menopause), which typically occurs after the age of 50, these six tips are for you.

Tip #1: Fix Leptin Resistance

You need to address leptin resistance. Leptin is a hormone produced by your fat cells, and the more body fat you have, the higher your leptin levels are likely to be. Over time, you can develop resistance, meaning your brain no longer responds to those high leptin levels. This makes you feel hungry all the time and can slow down your metabolism, making it harder to lose weight. Poor circadian rhythms, lack of natural sunlight exposure, and other factors can worsen leptin resistance, often leading to insulin resistance. Fixing your leptin signaling is key to preventing potential issues like diabetes.

Tip #2: Sleep

A key tip for managing andropause is getting a good night's sleep. Focus on maintaining healthy circadian rhythms by ensuring you get regular, restful sleep in a dark, quiet room.

Tip #3: Mother Nature's Prescription

To follow Mother Nature's prescription means aligning with your natural rhythms. This includes getting proper sunlight exposure during the day and grounding—taking off your socks and shoes to connect with the earth. These practices are crucial for balancing your hormones.

Tip #4: Zinc

Make sure you're getting enough zinc. Zinc is a mineral that many people may be low in or have difficulty absorbing from their diet. It plays a key role in lowering DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which is important for maintaining hormonal balance during andropause.

Tip #5: Exercise

Focus on mobility exercises. While movement and exercise are essential for our hormones and mental well-being, mobility training becomes even more important as we age. As we lose flexibility in our joints, you may experience aches, pains, and soreness, especially in the morning. This is common during andropause, but incorporating mobility exercises into your daily routine can help alleviate these symptoms and improve joint health.

Tip #6: Herbals

Consider using herbal remedies to help balance hormones during andropause and lower DHT levels. Some of my favorites include Maca, an adaptogenic herb that supports stress and cortisol levels, and Saw Palmetto, which is great for naturally reducing DHT. Stinging Nettle is also beneficial, especially if you're concerned about prostate enlargement, as it helps alleviate symptoms like frequent urination. Another natural remedy I recommend is pumpkin seeds, which are rich in whole-food zinc and also help lower DHT levels.
